Solar Thermal Energy Technician
The Solar Thermal Energy Technician hands-on trainer teaches the basic principles of solar thermal energy. The STEM-based curriculum leads students through a series of hands-on activities to apply those principles in skills practice.
Solar thermal energy technicians design, develop, install, and service solar thermal systems, from small residential solar water heaters to commercial solar thermal collectors at electric power plants.
Using the Solar Thermal Energy Technician trainer, students will:
ü Install solar thermal panel onto rail system
ü Plumb the solar thermal panel
ü Connect open loop system, complete plumbing, and perform leak test
ü Operate and test open loop system
ü Connect closed loop system, complete plumbing, and perform leak test
ü Operate and test closed loop system
ü Get an overview of solar thermal power
ü Learn thermal energy concepts
ü Discover types of collectors
ü Distinguish types of solar thermal systems
ü Define various types of mounting systems
ü Install anchors and rail mount system
